England women's won their first place-ranking game at the World Deaf Futsal Championship on Tuesday morning, with a 3-1 victory against Japan.
Steve Daley's team suffered a quarter-final defeat to Ireland on Sunday, which ended their hopes of securing silverware in Italy but with two games to play after that to determine the final tournament rankings they faced a Japanese team who also topped their group before losing to Brazil in the knockout stage.
And it was a tight afair at the Pala Roma venue in Montesilvano, with the teams sharing a goal-less first half, before Japan opened the scoring midway through the second period.
The Para Lionesses fought back though and found an equaliser through Louise Hogan, which took the game to extra time.
And Daley's team found the breakthrough when Hogan got her second, before goalkeeper Natasha Hamm then made it 3-1 with her third goal of the tournament.
England will now face their final placement match on Thursday morning (10.45am BST) when they will play Italy to decide fifth and sixth spot.
Head coach: Steve Daley
