Cole Palmer is grateful to England fans for their support after they voted him the Men's Player of the Year for 2023-24 connected by EE.

The Chelsea star fought off competition from Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka, who finished second and third respectively, to scoop the prize.

Palmer made his Three Lions debut in November 2023 and scored just his second international goal in the final of EURO 2024 against Spain in July.

He said: "I want to say thank you to the fans. Being voted by the whole country is an honour.

"I always try to excite people in the way that I play. I want to take risks and try things. I think that's how the fans want to see me play and I try to play as if I was a fan out on the pitch.

"That means trying to score goals and getting them off their seats."

Palmer admits his goal in that EUROs showdown was the highlight of his award-winning England campaign and wants to use that moment to propel the rest of his international career.

He said: "Every kid wants to score in a major tournament final. I couldn't believe it.

"I remember Jude [Bellingham] setting the ball back but after that I don't remember much about what happened. I don't remember the ball hitting the net. It was all a blur.

"It's important I kick on from there. There's lots of healthy competition in that area of the pitch. There are a lot of great players and it's good for England ultimately.

"I'm really happy with how the last year has gone overall. It's all happened so quickly but I just want to keep it going now."
