Cole first joined the England senior squad in November 2023, when he received the call-up for the games with Malta and North Macedonia following a strong start to the 2023-24 season with Chelsea.

The attacking midfielder had joined the west London club in the summer of 2023 from his hometown club Manchester City, having emerged through their academy ranks and been a part of their all-conquering squad during the 2022-23 season.

But with the prospect of regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge, the youngster from Wythenshawe chose to move south and work under new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino.

He'd already represented England at numerous development levels before then. He was part of the MU17s squad for their UEFA U17 EURO Finals campaign in 2019 after progressing through the age groups before then, before stepping up to the MU21s in 2021.

Under Lee Carsley, Palmer was one of the stand-out players as the Young Lions qualified for the U21 EURO Finals in the summer of 2023, where they went on to win the competition by beating Spain in the Final with his free-kick providing the assist for Curtis Jones' winning goal.
