Brendan Rodgers: my football philosophy
During his time at Swansea City, current Leicester City manager, Brendan Rodgers, talked to us about his footballing philosophy.
When a vision is robust, compromise is treated with caution. A notion Brendan Rodgers embodies in full.
Faced with the seemingly daunting task of designing a Premier League survival plan for his newly promoted side, the Northern Irishman has boldly championed the offensive.
“The football philosophy is very much about positive football. If you want to define it: we like to play attacking, creative football but always with a tactical discipline. The template for all of our work is our organisation.”
Sticking to his beliefs has, so far, proved successful. At the time of publication, the Swans are in eleventh place. Impressive performances based on a fluid passing style have afforded a position of security.
Victories over the top sides, like Arsenal and Manchester City, have been eye-catching. Sure, there have been defeats; this is a club, and a manager, in their first Premier League season, after all. But those setbacks haven’t changed his approach.
“It’s about defending the principles of our play: which is football. I would much rather do that than play another way,” explained Rodgers, who became Swansea’s manager in July 2010.
