England Women's Senior Team
X or Y with England's Esme Morgan
The Lionesses defender is the latest player from the squad to choose from some tricky either/or questions
ESME MORGAN: ENGLAND PLAYER PROFILE
England and Washington Spirit defender Esme Morgan is the latest in the Lionesses squad to sit down and face our X or Y quiz.
Following on from the likes of Jess Park, Leah Williamson, Keira Walsh, Grace Clinton and Georgia Stanway in facing some quickfire choices.
With the Lionesses gearing up for their quarter-final game with Sweden in Switzerland, we caught up with Morgan to ask her a series of either/or questions to find out more about the 24 year old.
Here is what she said.
Plane or train? It’s going to have to be plane for me right now! It is what it is and it’s the path I chose! I’ve felt alright doing the flight back and forth, but I think I’ve got some good management and try to prepare myself in the days leading up to a long flight. But yes, a plane gets you further faster.
Fashion or comfort? Why not both at once? I think you can do both. I’m not going to claim to be the most fashionable on the team but I think I dress relatively well and I would never choose fashion over comfort. So comfort first, but I like to look reasonably presentable!
TV show or film? I don’t really watch a lot of either, but I would say series over films probably.

Single room or shared? Before I moved to America it’s been a long time without sharing a room so I would’ve said single. But it is quite fun to have someone to natter away to, as I’m a talker and it’s nice to be able to chat about something in the evening. Having said that, I’d just go and knock on someone’s door if I wanted to go and chat so I’d probably say own room and then you get the best of both worlds.
Late nights or early mornings? I’m a late-night person. I do not like early mornings at all. We’re all night owls, I remember when we did some tests before the World Cup in Australia, we had questionnaires around what our body clock was like, and there was maybe one person who was a morning lark. So think it’s fair to say we all prefer the late nights.
Gym or outside running and sport? I’ve learned to love the gym, but if outdoor sports then that. I’ve got into pickleball in America and it’s so fun and I love it. But out of the original two, I’d say gym. I like seeing progression!
Sauna or ice bath? Erm, I really don’t enjoy the ice bath as I don’t like being cold so I would say a sauna, although I never really use one. Maybe neither!
After a big win, party or chill? Is this a trick question?! It depends if we’ve got a day off after, but I do like a celebratory night out but sometimes I’m so exhausted I just want to go home, watch the NFL and have my feet up.
