England’s Cerebral Palsy team sealed a fifth-place finish at the IFCPF World Championship in Spain, after a thrilling penalty shootout victory over Argentina.

The Para Lions and their South American opponents couldn’t be separated after both normal and extra time after playing out a 0-0 draw in Salou.

And with the final position tie to be decided via a penalty shootout, drama ensued at Futbol Salou venue.

After David Porcher scored the first spot kick, Argentina levelled things up through Mariano Morana who blasting home with confusion reigning due to a hole in the net.

Mason Dunbar confidently dispatched England’s second before Mariano Cortez also scored to take it to 2-2.

That left Argentina’s captain Hernando Rumussi under pressure to score their third and final penalty to take it to sudden death.

Ethan Day then stepped up and saw his penalty over the bar to leave Argentina with a real chance to win it, but Giles Moore kept England in it with a crucial stop to  leave it at 3-3.

Liam Irons scored next to restore England’s lead before Rodrigo Lugrin made it four apiece, with the goalkeepers next to take.

Moore was first and sent his shot over the bar, before facing his opposite number Facundo Godoy who also missed by sending his effort wide of the post.

Porcher had his second spot kick saved by Godoy, leaving Argentina with another chance to win it, only for Moore to save again from Morana.

Dunbar was next to get the scoring back underway, and then Moore made his third save of the shootout to win the game and prompt celebrations for the Para Lions.
