Celebrating grassroots clubs this World Cup
The countdown is firmly on towards a special summer of football, and nothing brings the nation together quite like a World Cup.
As England’s FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign prepares to unfold, grassroots clubs – the heart and hub of every community – are throwing open their doors across the nation this summer to cheer on the team and bring communities together in the process.
The unique power of football to capture the nation is never more prevalent than during a major tournament. But it’s not just watching football that brings us together. Over 15.7 million players regularly participate in grassroots football in England, with more than a million volunteers giving their time and skills week in, week out to keep community clubs thriving.
Grassroots clubs in all corners of the country (99.7% of us have an England Football Accredited club in our local area) are a place where communities are built. Above and far beyond football, they are rooted in local life, often serving as a focal point for those who live nearby.
Social connection, local initiatives, events, education, routine, plenty of community spirit and, of course, the physical and mental benefits of sport – grassroots football clubs have never been more vital to the people and areas they connect.
If your club or league is opening its doors for FIFA World Cup 2026 events, family fêtes, tournaments or watch parties this summer, we want to hear about it!
Let us know what you have planned as we showcase how grassroots clubs are bringing communities together this summer.
