Lionesses hold a UEFA EURO 2025 community open day at their Sportanlage Au training base in Zurich

LATEST LIONESSES NEWS

The Lionesses today held a UEFA EURO 2025 community open day at their Zurich training base of Sportanlage Au.

The first-class sports complex in the municipality of Opfikon is where the 23 players and support team have been hard at work for the past week since arriving at the tournament.

The facility, owned by the local authority and the home of FC Glattbrugg, incudes a full-size training pitch, high performance gym and the necessary recovery facilities - perfect for moving on from last night's opening game and with full focus on the Netherlands' match to come in the city on Wednesday.

The club invited their women's and girl's teams, as well as other local clubs and schools to the fully open session. Dignitaries Schmid Roman (the Mayor of Municipality of Opfikon) and Pante Ciri (from the Town Council of Optikon) also joined, with the Lionesses posing for a team photo at the end of the session before interacting with young fans who had come along to watch.

England head coach Sarina Wiegman said: “It is so important when we travel to tournaments to have a ‘home from home’ feel, and we have been very well looked after by everyone here in Zurich. This training facility is perfect for what we need, and we are very grateful for the way we have been welcomed. It is nice on days like today to be able to say ‘thank you’ to the local community.”

Members of The FA grounds team from St. George’s Park have been working with staff at Sportanlage Au for several weeks to ensure the pitch is delivered to the highest standard. The high performance gym was installed with significant support from lead partners Nike, while Lucozade helped with the installation of a hydration corner.
