England's matchwinner speaks after Lionesses' victory over Spain at Wembley

JESS PARK'S GRASSROOTS STORY

Jess Park says scoring the winning goal against Spain at Wembley was the biggest goal of her career to date.

The Manchester City schemer poked home from close range in the first half to help the Lionesses to their first win of the new UEFA Women’s Nations League campaign.

And Park believes the team performance from England will leave the Lionesses with plenty to build on across the rest of their Nations League games and ultimately this summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 Finals in Switzerland.

“I thought we were really good in and out of possession,” said Park.

“We battled hard, we battled to the last minute. The whole team got stuck in and we came out with the win, which is so good.

“[It gives us] loads of confidence, loads of belief. We can take it through to the next games that we have.

“We were really clear on it, we were all together and we worked really hard the whole game and it showed, we got the win.”

As for the goal, Park admits it hadn’t really sunk in yet but is hoping her contribution and continuing club form with City will help put her in contention for a place in the squad this summer.

“It was a brilliant feeling, I don’t think there’s anything like it,” she admitted.

“I’m really happy with that. I will keep working hard at my club, keep showing what I can do on the pitch and I will give it everything to be there [at the EUROs].”
