THOMAS TUCHEL'S COACHING BIO
- Thomas Tuchel will become the England men’s national team’s 16th different permanent manager and only the third non-Englishman in the role, after Sven-Göran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
- This will be Tuchel’s first international managerial role. As a manager at top-flight clubs, he has a 57 per cent win ratio in all competitions, with his best coming at Paris Saint-Germain when he won 75 per cent of his matches there and won Ligue 1 in both his full seasons in charge.
- Tuchel managed 63 Premier League matches for Chelsea and enjoyed a 56 per cent win ratio, a percentage bettered by only eight managers with 50+ games in the competition.
- During his time at Chelsea, Tuchel won the UEFA Champions League just 30 games into his spell there, beating fellow English side Manchester City 1-0 in the final in May 2021. Among managers with 50+ games managed in the competition, only Pep Guardiola and Louis van Gaal can better Tuchel’s win ratio of 59.7 per cent.
- In his top-flight league managerial career, 12 English players have made an appearance under Tuchel. Of those players, only Trevoh Chalobah hasn’t won a full international cap.

- Harry Kane scored 36 goals in 32 Bundesliga games under Tuchel for Bayern Munich, averaging a goal every 79 minutes, which is Kane’s best minutes per goal ratio under a manager in his top-flight league career. Among players to play 2,000 minutes for a manager in Bundesliga history, only Robert Lewandowski under Hans-Dieter Flick has a better minutes per goal ratio.
- During his time at Chelsea, Tuchel became known for his possession-style approach, averaging 62.2 per cent possession over the course of his time there. Since Opta has these statistics for the Premier League since 2003-04, only Pep Guardiola has a higher average possession with one club and again only Guardiola’s City average more successful passes per game than Tuchel’s Chelsea.
- Since 2015-16 when Tuchel joined Borussia Dortmund, among managers with 200 or more games managed in Europe’s big-five leagues, the only two with a better win ratio than Tuchel are Pep Guardiola and Massimiliano Allegri. Similarly, only Guardiola’s teams averaged more successful passes per game than Tuchel’s in that same timeframe.
