Look back on the career of one of England's greatest players of all time after Jill Scott announced her retirement from football

Captain fantastic: Jill's England career spanned almost two decades if you include the youth teams. Here she is captaining and scoring for the Under-19s against the Faroe Islands in September 2007

Jill made her senior England debut in August 2006 at the age of just 19, when she came on for Lionesses legend Kelly Smith as an 82nd-minute substitute

Off the mark: Jill scored her first senior international goal with a slightly fortuitous long-range effort against Argentina during the 2007 FIFA World Cup

The hero: England were at 1-1 in extra-time of their EURO 2009 semi-final with Netherlands when Jill headed in the winner in the 116th minute

The Lionesses were behind against New Zealand at the 2011 FIFA World Cup until Jill powerfully headed home Alex Scott’s cross, before Jess Clarke added a winner

World Cup stunner: Jill put England in front in their 2011 FIFA World Cup semi-final against France in impressive fashion, as she scored with a 30-yard strike before the Lionesses went on to lose on penalties

Player for the big occasion: Jill showed again she was capable of delivering in the biggest moments as she scored to help Team GB book their place in the quarter-finals of London 2012 with a 3-0 win over Cameroon

Jill was part of a Great Britain team who helped inspire a generation of fans when they beat Brazil at London 2012 in front of 70,584 fans, which was by far the largest crowd for a women's international in Britain at the time - a crowd which included a young Leah Williamson

More medals: Jill was part of the England side who beat Germany in the third-place play-off to win bronze at the 2015 FIFA World Cup

100 not out: A few months after the 2015 World Cup, Jill reached her century of caps when she led the Lionesses to a 1-0 win against Australia in China

Record-breaker: Jill becomes the record holder for the most appearances at a World Cup by any England men’s or women’s team player when she made her 18th outing in the competition against Cameroon in 2019. The midfielder would go on to make 21 as the Lionesses finished fourth.

Jill became a two-time Olympian when she was selected for the 2020 Games in Tokyo, which took place a year later after being delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Team GB exited the competition at the quarter-final stage after an enthralling extra-time defeat to Australia

Jill is just the second player to reach 150 caps for England, having reached the milestone against Northern Ireland in February 2021

Records continued to fall as Jill came on against Norway at EURO 2022, with the midfielder playing in her tenth major competition and helping the Lionesses to an incredible 8-0 victory
