Hailing from the Channel Island of Guernsey, Maya was first called up for the England senior squad in November 2022 for the internationals with Japan and Norway in Spain after a strong start to the 2022-23 season with Manchester United in the Barclays Women's Super League.

A versatile defender, Le Tissier had already picked up plenty of international experience after being capped by England with the U17s, U19s and U23 team before Sarina Wiegman decided to add her to the senior ranks.

Growing up in Guernsey, Maya spent her formative years playing boys' grassroots football from the age of four with no girls' teams on the island at the time. Eventually, she began to represent the Hampshire County team which involved regularly flying to the mainland.

Despite the obvious connotations of her name, Maya is of no relation to former England men's player and Guernsey-born Matt Le Tissier.

She also has the honour of being the first girl to play for the Guernsey boys' U16s team having featured against Jersey in 2018 and later that year made a more permanent move to the mainland when she signed for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Quickly progressing through the academy ranks, she made her BWSL debut in December 2018 and hasn't looked back since, making almost 60 appearances for the Seagulls over four years before she moved north to Manchester United in the summer of 2022.
