"I’m from West Derby in Liverpool, and I don’t know anybody else from my area that has played at a World Cup. It just doesn’t happen to lads like me."

The 2017-18 term was the breakthrough campaign for the Liverpool youngster, who was given a first-team berth at Anfield by Jurgen Klopp and quickly became a regular at right-back for his hometown club.

After working his way through the international ranks with the Young Lions, featuring at the U17 World Cup in Chile in 2015 and also helping the MU19s to qualify for the Euro Finals of 2017, Alexander-Arnold became a key man for the MU21s before making the senior step after his displays for Liverpool meant he couldn't be ignored for much longer.

His first call-up from Gareth Southgate came for the 2018 World Cup, after a stunning end to his domestic campaign with Liverpool by reaching the Champions League Final, where they came second to Real Madrid.

He made his debut in the pre-World Cup warm-up against Costa Rica in Leeds before featuring in two games at the Finals in Russia.

From there, Trent has gone from being a youngster in the squad for the World Cup playing back up to Kieran Trippier, to becoming a regular in Southgate's starting line-up as the Three Lions qualified for EURO 2020.

A first goal for England came in a Wembley win over USA in November 2018, while also helping Liverpool to the Champions League title in 2019 courtesy of a win over Tottenham Hotspur in the 2019 Final.

Alexander-Arnold was selected as part of England's EURO 2020 squad but then injury in the warm-up match with Austria ruled him out of the tournament.
