See the returning players and first-time call-ups in the England head coach's squad to face Uruguay and Japan

Thomas Tuchel has named a 35-man squad for the Three Lions’ friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan in March, the last Men’s international camp before he picks his 2026 FIFA World Cup squad in May.

Here we look at five of the headlines from the England head coach’s selections, as Kobbiee Mainoo and Dominic Calvert-Lewin lead a host of returnees following impressive recent form, and there are two new call-ups.

Mainoo back after revival under Carrick

Kobbie Mainoo has been rewarded for his impressive return to the first-team fold at Manchester United since Michael Carrick was appointed as Head Coach in January 2026.

The 20-year-old has been ever-present since then, starring alongside Casemiro in central midfield in a run off seven wins out of the last nine Premier League matches.

Mainoo made his mark in the Three Lions’ run to the UEFA Euro 2024 final as a mainstay in Gareth Southgate’s midfield, and returns to the senior squad for the first time since facing the Republic of Ireland in September 2024.
