The Three Lions captain assesses England's narrow win over Andorra thanks to his second-half strike

REPORT: ANDORRA 0-1 ENGLAND

England captain Harry Kane says the Three Lions will take the points and move on quickly following Saturday’s 1-0 win over Andorra in Barcelona.

Kane’s second-half goal proved to be the winner for England in a game where the Three Lions never quite found their rhythm on a hot evening in Spain and against a defensively resolute Andorran team.

But Kane, who moved level with both Frank Lampard and Sir Bobby Charlton with 106 caps with his appearance, is experienced enough to know that the win is most important in qualifying campaigns with a place in next summer’s World Cup up for grabs.

“For sure we can play better, it wasn't our greatest performance,” he admitted.

“I don't think people will remember this one but we can learn from it.

“The June camp is never an easy camp, there are always people coming off the back of a lot of games, long seasons. I think we saw that out here today.

“It was very hot here, dry pitch, probably similar conditions to next year at the World Cup, so we will go away and analyse.

“We had good spells in the game but we couldn't consistently have attack after attack. We take the three points and move on.

“We probably weren't good enough on the ball, not enough forward runs, forward passes. The most important thing is we kept giving it away, it gave them confidence, gave them energy.

“At 1-0 with five, ten minutes to go, you have to be careful. It was an important game for us to make sure we got the three points.

“We just have to learn from it, we got what we needed; three points.”

Kane’s goal came following a cross from Noni Madueke, with the Chelsea winger putting in an impressive performance on the flank.

And the Bayern Munich man paid tribute to Madueke who will have left an impression on Thomas Tuchel.

“I think he was a constant threat today, obviously got the assist for the goal as well,” added Kane.

“We need more of that. We have amazing players, we need players who are not afraid to go one v one and if they lose the ball, we will get it again and go again. He played really well.”

The squad will now return to St. George’s Park, where attentions will turn to Tuesday’s international with Senegal at the City Ground in Nottingham.

“We have a friendly on Tuesday where we can learn again against an opposition we may come up against next year,” he said.

“That's all we can do but we thank the fans tonight, they were great and even though they were spread out in the stadium, they made their noise heard.

“We're disappointed we couldn't score a few more for them but happy we got the win.”
