England men’s under-19s played their final game of three matches in Marbella on Tuesday, as they continued to prepare for their UEFA U19 EURO qualifiers in November with a 4-2 win over France.
The Young Lions prevailed as winners in an end-to-end encounter at La Quinta Football Centre, as they manged to score four goals in consecutive games.
The fixture initially saw France start sharpest but it was England who broke the deadlock ten minutes in courtesy of captain Ethan Nwaneri, as the Arsenal midfielder cut in from the right and finished excellently from 20 yards out.
And England doubled their advantage moments later when the combination of Mikey Moore and Kadan Young on either flank provided Josh King an the opportunity to finish coolly in the box to propel Will Antwi’s side into a commanding position 14 minutes in.

However, France reduced the arrears as Diliwidi Kembo provided the final touch when a ball across the six-yard box was bundled home to halve the deficit inside 25 minutes.
With momentum firmly on their side, France wasted no time in levelling the score. A fierce effort was deemed a penalty after being blocked by an England hand and Kembo dispatched the spot-kick to add his second and the fixture's fourth goal, under half an hour in.
The scoring didn't stop there either, as King was involved again driving into the opposition box and squaring for Shumaira Mheuka. The Chelsea forward calmly side-footed England’s third, reclaiming their lead in the 44th minute.
As the second half commenced, the intensity of the first seemingly took its toll as the game gradually slowed down. With a slender lead to their name, it was England who would strike next.
Only a minute after coming on, Lennon Wheeldon snatched possession off the French defence and finished with poise to grab his first England goal with 20 minutes left.

The fixture soon resumed its frantic state after England’s fourth, as France looked to find a way back into the tie late on. But this was to no avail, as the energy of Antwi’s substitutions were able to see out victory.
With this win rounding off October, the Young Lions will turn their focus to the November internationals, when they will commence their UEFA EURO U19 qualifiers.
