There was late drama in Salou, as England slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Brazil in the IFCPF World Championship.

After an entertaining and open game between two attack-minded teams, it was Brazil who found a breakthrough with less than ten minutes remaining.

A ball down the line saw Brazil’s Angelo dos Santos Mota nick the ball away from David Porcher before his cut back was fired home by Eduardo Felipe da Silva Martins to prompt wild celebrations from the South Americans.

But England hit back and forced some real pressure on the Brazilians in the closing stages before a controversial end to the game ensued.

It was all sparked when Liam Irons got on the end of a cross-field ball in the area and his ricocheted effort under a heavy challenge crept through the legs of Brazil keeper Maocir da Silva Matos, only for Jo Victor Batista Cortes to scramble clear off the line.

Initially, a goal was awarded to England before it was then ruled out following the referee's conversation with his assistant, who had indicated it should be a penalty for the Para Lions for a foul on Irons in the initial build up.

After a considerable delay, captain Matt Crossen stepped up to take the spot kick but Matos made a flying save to deny him before Brazil managed to scramble clear the following corner and pressure from England.

Andy Smith’s side will be back in action on Thursday (11.30am GMT), when they play their final group stage game against Canada.
