The skipper says the Three Lions can step it up but remains optimistic after Denmark draw

Harry Kane knows England can improve after they drew 1-1 with Denmark in their second Group C game at EURO 2024.

The England skipper opened his account for the tournament after 18 minutes before the Danes equalised in the first half.

There were no further goals in a quiet second period and Kane believes the Three Lions have yet to find their best form in Germany.

He said: "Like I said before the tournament, there are no easy games in major tournament football and I think that's showing. For sure we've got levels we can reach and we can be better both with the ball and without the ball, no question. I think the sign of a good team is when you're not playing your best you still find a way to get results like we have done in the last two games.

"We are top of the group, we are all-but qualified, which is the number one objective. We know we can improve. I know there will probably be a bit of disappointment back home. We experienced this in the last EUROs as well when we drew with Scotland. It's time to stay calm, a time to reflect and regroup. Step by step, we will get there."

Kane then explained in more detail what he wants England to do better in next week's final group match against Slovenia.

He added: "We are struggling both with and without the ball. We will look at it back, the pressure in both games hasn't been quite right and with the ball we haven't been good enough. From top to bottom, from me all the way to Picks [Jordan Pickford], everyone is dropping below their level in terms of retaining the ball, playing under pressure. It was tough out there, with the heat, with the pitch. It wasn't easy. We are calm, it wasn't our greatest game but we got away with a draw, which is a good sign, and hopefully we can build.

"We are starting games well but in general when teams are dropping a few players deeper we are not quite sure how to get the pressure on and who is the one supposed to be going. In the second half, we tried to change it a little bit with me and Jude playing in front of their two midfielders and then trying to get up but it was difficult. It was a difficult game. Credit to Denmark, they're a really good side. They got to the semi-finals at the last Euros, they caused us some threats. Overall we have got to look back and see where we can improve."
