Report: England MU21s 3-0 Northern Ireland
The Young Lions made it two wins from two in November as Lee Carsley enjoyed a successful return to Goodison Park
Harvey Elliott scored twice in the second half as England men’s under-21s surged a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland to keep the pressure on Ukraine in European Under-21 Championship qualification.
Tyler Morton had earlier opened the scoring for England on his full debut, as all three goals came from Liverpool players in a game played at Goodison Park.
Lee Carsley’s side have now won back-to-back games since defeat in Ukraine in October and were in control for much of this encounter.
Morton, who plies his trade for Hull City on loan from Liverpool, broke the deadlock on the half-hour with a sweet strike from outside the box as England led 1-0 at the break.
And in a funny twist of fate, it was another young Red in Elliott, who doubled England’s advantage early in the second half from a free-kick before he made it three with a neat chip ten minutes from time.

Fresh from their 3-0 victory away to Serbia, the Young Lions started quickly in this one, with Elliott picking out an unmarked Tino Livramento at the back post. The Newcastle United man pulled it back across but England skipper Jarrad Branthwaite could not quite connect from close range.
England were on top and had another chance when Hayden Hackney crossed in from the right. Jay Stansfield took it on the half-volley, but did not strike it cleanly, with Northern Ireland keeper Josh Clarke comfortably dealing with the shot.
Morton’s connection was much crisper soon after, however. The impressive Noni Madueke beat his man on the right before playing in Livramento. His pull-back was cleared straight to Morton, who did well to control before calmly striking the ball into the bottom left corner.
Madueke was causing plenty of issues on the right and left his defender again shortly afterwards, but Stansfield’s first-time effort flew over the bar.

They didn't have to wait long for a second though. Elliott was brought down by Terry Devlin on the edge of the box and promptly picked himself up and curled the resulting free-kick around the wall with his left foot and past a helpless Clarke.
Madueke could have extended the lead with 20 minutes to go, played in by Elliott but he was unable to beat Clarke from a very tight angle.
The third goal did follow though, with a delightful through-ball from Morton to Elliott. The Liverpool combination worked a treat as Elliott notched his second with a delightful chip over the onrushing Clarke.
With the three points, England are still comfortably installed in second in Group F, three points behind the Ukraine and three clear of Serbia at the halfway stage in the group.
