20 Questions with Jess Carter
England and Chelsea defender Jess Carter becomes the latest player to answer our questions, as she discusses her chatty yet chilled personality and her hatred for spiders!
1) What’s your earliest memory?
Probably a big family trip to America. My family are American, so there were a lot of us as we are a big family and we all went back home for the holidays. I have no idea how old I was then but that's a big memory of mine.
2) If you could go back in time, would you? And where to?
I think I’d like to go back to just different moments of when people that have passed were here. So just sharing those kinds of last moments with them, like my brother's wedding when our mum was here. Moments that I was just sharing with them. So nothing in particular, just wherever those people were.
3) What do you like most about yourself?
I'm quite chilled and quite easy-going. I think that makes things a little bit easier when you're not so set in a specific way.
4) What's your biggest achievement? (Jess was speaking before last summer’s EURO win)
There's probably a couple. Initially, maybe getting signed for Chelsea because I still didn't think that making it to a professional team like Chelsea was really an option. And then now, being in the England set-up as it is pretty big for me to be here.
5) What’s your worst habit?
I probably talk too much. I talk all the time! And sometimes I don't think before I speak. That's my worst habit. The amount of times I will say something and then have to go back and like explain myself again or apologise for not talking a little bit too quickly.

6) What makes you most angry?
When people aren't supportive of others, anything along those lines. I'd like to consider myself a nice human being, so when my own personal values are questioned, that winds me up a lot.
7) Who is your biggest influence?
Just my family, from my sisters, my partner, to my parents. They all inspire me a lot.
8) How do you react under pressure?
I personally do quite well under pressure. I'm quite chilled. I never seem to get too high or too low, so I don't ever get too stressed when it comes to pressure.
9) When do you do feel most at ease?
Just in calm environments when things are quite calm and relaxed and you can just feel comfortable where you are.
10) What do you dream about when you sleep?
I very rarely often have dreams. I don't think I often dream.
11) Favourite phrase or word?
I always seem to say "it is what it is". What will be will be. Guess that is kind of how I get through life.
12) What reminds you of home?
O I don’t know. Maybe my dad barbecues a lot, so when we go out to dinner and find somewhere with really good meat dishes, I call him and tell him about it.
13) Are you superstitious about anything?
I used to always have to wear skins under my football top, even in the summer, but a doctor told me off for doing it so I stopped. We were in France when it was ridiculously hot so I had to move away from that. I still wear those under shorts underneath my main shorts every single game though.
14) What makes you cry?
I'm not much of a crier. I’m not really an emotional person like that. I probably cry more at movies than I do in real life. Stuff about my favourite couple not ending up together or when a dog dies in a movie. One of those ones, rather than the serious stuff.
15) One song that makes me feel good?
"Show Me Love" is a good song and my other one would be "Got To Be" because I think it's the ultimate powerful song of strength.
16) Biggest obstacle?
Just myself. I think most people are their own worst critic and once you can get past your own thoughts and insecurities, anything else is possible.
17) Favourite place in the world?
Anywhere by the beach. I love being by water. Being on the beach in the evening, that would be perfect for me.
18) Most valuable possession?
I've got a necklace that my dad gave me when I was around 18 and after my mum passed away, I have one of her rings. So those are the most important to me.
19) Worst fear?
Spiders. I'm absolutely petrified of spiders, it is one of the only things where I will cry and I will scream! Whether they're toy spiders, spiders on TV, or real ones.
20) How would you like to be remembered?
I just want to be remembered as a good person, someone who stuck up for others and was supportive, and helped people feel good.
