England captain Leah Williamson spoke of her pride at leading the Lionesses to their first ever EURO title at Wembley Stadium.

Williamson and her teammates capped off a magical month of football across the country by being crowned as champions after a 2-1 victory over Germany in the final.

And the skipper, who has carried herself with aplomb both on and off the pitch throughout the EUROs, was full of emotion after lifting the trophy.

“I just can’t stop crying but something like this, we talk and we talk and we talk and we’ve finally done it,” said the Arsenal star.

“It’s about doing it on the pitch and I tell you what the kids are alright

“This is the proudest moment of my life, until I have kids I suppose.
“I’m lapping it up, I took in every piece of advice to take every single second in because you are going to want to relive it and I’ll be reliving that for a long time.

“The legacy of this tournament is the change in society is everything that we’ve done, we’ve brought everybody together, we’ve got people at games.

“We want them to come to the WSL (Barclays WSL), the legacy of this team and that is the start of the journey.”

The victory was also sweet for Jill Scott, England’s most experienced player who came on to win her 161st cap in the second half.

“I actually can’t believe it,” said Scott, who played in the EURO 2009 Final defeat against Germany in Finland.

“On a serious note, these incredible group of staff and players such a privilege to be part of it, all the fans. What a day.

“The younger players have been absolutely fantastic, they play with freedom, you see them come on and they love the game of football, I’m just so grateful for every member of this team.

“The celebrations are going to be big. I don't think I'm going to sleep this week so if anyone is trying to get in touch…”

The Lionesses will now celebrate with fans at London's Trafalgar Square on Monday, while their next game on home soil takes place in Stoke on  Tuesday 6 September, with tickets now on sale.
