Belgium 0-1 England WU23s

Brighton & Hove Albion forward Katie Robinson scored just five minutes after coming on as a substitute to help England women’s under-23s beat Belgium 1-0 on Monday afternoon.

The two sides were playing each other in Stade Leburton in Tubize, Belgium, as England senior team head coach Sarina Wiegman looks to increase opportunities for promising players in the international pathway.

The Young Lionesses were led by Mo Marley and during the training camp last week ahead of this contest, the experienced coach was helping to mentor Emma Coates and England’s most capped player Fara Williams, with goalkeeper coach Tom Pressman completing the coaching team.

England WU23s’ captain for the day was Racing Louisville striker Ebony Salmon, who had been part of Wiegman’s senior squad for the Dutch coach’s first two matches in charge of the Lionesses last month.

And it was Salmon who created the game’s deciding goal on 65 minutes, as the former Bristol City striker received the ball inside the area and passed it to Robinson to score from six yards out.
