About the course

The role of a technical director is dynamic and multi-dimensional with the ultimate aim of continued success through the creation of a high performance culture supported by an aligned vision and strategy.

This bespoke individualised course is aimed at those currently working as a technical director in professional football or have been identified as possessing the potential for the role and show a desire to improve what they do.

Over a 20-month programme of learning, you'll explore the role of a technical director and key working relationships, as well as reflect on your current working practices in terms of strategy and leadership, identify areas for development and be fully supported in your continuous improvement.

The programme will allow you to share knowledge and experiences with other technical directors and explore how world-leading organisations operate.

Course prerequisites

Applicants are prioritised in the following order:

1. Those currently in a Technical Director role or equivalent

2. Individuals who clubs identify as having potential to be Technical Director within 2-3 years and hold the Talent ID Level 4 award

3. Individuals who clubs identify as having potential to be Technical Director within 2-3 years

4. Individuals The FA identify as having potential to be a Technical Director within 2-3 years

How is the course structured?

The course is made up of six modules with in-club support provided in-between by an FA tutor.

There are 25 contact days in total as a group, with workshops based at St. George’s Park and visits to high performing organisations and hub visits hosted by clubs.

You'll also have the chance to attend a three-day study visit at a world-leading organisation in Europe.

The course breakdown is as follows:

  • 2 days of assessment and profiling
  • 8 x 2 day modules
  • 3 day study visit
  • 5 (minimum) executive coaching sessions and one-to-one tutor visits
  • 2 x 1 day coach development group meetings
  • Study visit
