As the Lionesses depart for Australia and New Zealand in search of World Cup glory, we want to bring football home this summer by growing our network of female coaches and volunteers to inspire the next generation of stars in a celebration of female role models that will take place just three weeks before England’s opening fixture.
As more than 285,000 girls took part in the Biggest Ever Football Session earlier this year, the need for positive role models to inspire young girls and show them that they do have a place in the game has never been greater. Whether it's at school, after school, at local clubs, or anywhere else, Stepping over the Sidelines Weekend is an opportunity to find out more, meet new people and see how you can become a football volunteer.
Fancy giving it a go or know someone who might? Keep reading to find out how you can get involved!
What is Stepping over the Sidelines?Stepping over the Sidelines is a free, introductory workshop designed to encourage mums, female guardians, helpers, assistants, young leaders and players to take their first steps into coaching football.
Delivered face to face, the workshop aims to break down some of the barriers such as, “I have no playing or coaching experience” or “I don’t know the rules” as well as looking at the skills you may already hold which can be transferable to coaching football.
The practical aspect of the workshop is designed to showcase what coaching looks and feels like on the pitch, ensuring that you leave feeling comfortable and confident to get involved with a session.
Finally, the workshop gives a flavour of what you could explore next, including our free, online EE Playmaker by England Football course.
Across the weekend of July 1st & 2nd, a number of County FAs across the country will be delivering at least one introductory session to help you take that first step.
When is Stepping over the Sidelines Weekend taking place?Stepping over the Sidelines Weekend will take place across 1st & 2nd July. The County FAs listed at the bottom of this page will deliver at least one workshop on either of these days. To find out when and where your local County FA will be delivering a workshop near you, simply scroll down to the bottom of this page.
Why is this event taking place? We want to provide opportunities for anyone interested in coaching football to learn from role models in the game and gain a foothold in the grassroots football community.
The weekend aims to provide an encouraging and supportive environment where aspiring coaches can take their first steps to learn about coaching, techniques and strategies, as well as getting to know other female coaches and individuals in the community.
